I was torn between buying a KitchenAid mixer and the Cuisinart die-cast. The main reason I wanted it was to make bread, so I finally decided on the food processor. I only tried using the machine twice and returned it within two days, as for my needs, it was totally unsatisfactory. Here are the two big problems I had:
First, it just couldn’t whip cream well at all–a mixer does the job much better. The cream with the Cuisinart was flat and separated no matter how much I mixed it. No big deal, I’ll just keep using my old mixer I thought.
Second, and this was the deal-breaker, was that it simply could not handle a batch of dough. Using the dough recipe from the book that came with the machine, the machine kept cutting off part-way through the process. I checked the instructions and they indicated you should turn off the machine and wait 10-15 minutes. This is apparently NORMAL! Then, when I tried again, it cut off again. Doing bread this way might take days!! I got so angry at the machine that I decided then and there to return it.
It might cut and slice like magic, but in two important tasks, the machine simply wasn’t competent. If you plan on doing any bread making, think twice about using this seemingly heavy-duty machine.
